Everything happens only for good

Whatever happens in our life happens only for a reason and it is always for our good. The Divine Intelligence which governs the world cannot make a mistake in the governance of any life or matter in the Universe. Everything is planned with such precision that there is no room for mistake. But there is definitely room for lack of understanding in us. We rarely understand why things happen in a certain way in our lives. We get angry and disappointed. We blame others, the conditions and circumstances and ultimately God for our lack of success or comfort in life.  Those who have faith in the Cosmic Play of God know that whatever happens is always for their good and whichever way the cards fall, we only stand to gain from it. When we live life with this philosophy, we see that every event in our life makes us stronger and better and brings out the best in us.  Events which work out the way we want, give us happiness and those events which do not give the results we seek, make us strong and enable us to weather storms with a smile and bounce back. The story below illustrates this truth –Everything happens only for good!

Once, there was a prosperous kingdom which was ruled by a good king and an even better minister.  The minister was highly intelligent, careful, hardworking and disciplined. He had absolute faith in God. He believed in doing the best he could and accepted the results of his work as being best for him.  He was always optimistic and saw the good side of everything. His habit of seeing only good in everything annoyed his king at times.

One day the king and the chief minister went on a hunting trip. They passed through a dense forest. As they were eating fruits, the knife in the king’s hand slipped, fell down and chopped his toe off. The king was bleeding profusely and was in pain. He went limping to his chief minister. The chief minister looked at the king’s foot and said: Ah – what has happened is only for your good! There is nothing but Grace of God behind this accident. The king was furious with the minister. He noticed a dry well nearby.  He tricked the chief minister into inspecting it and pushed him into the well. Then he limped back to his horse to ride back to his palace.

As the king was riding back through the dense forest, he was captured by a group of tribal men living in the forest. They were delighted with their catch. It was the full moon day and they wanted to offer a human sacrifice for their Goddess.  Having a healthy and fit king was a great offering and surely the chief priest would reward them for bringing such a great catch. The king was anointed with fragrant oil and bathed before being sacrificed. He was trembling with fear and praying desperately for a means to escape. The chief priest came in to inspect the sacrifice. As he looked at the king from head to toe, he noticed that one toe in the king’s foot was missing. The offering was imperfect! The king could not be sacrificed as one of his body parts was missing.

The priest told the king: I am sorry we cannot use you for the holy sacrifice. The Goddess will not accept any being who is not complete and perfect in all ways. So go now quickly. The king was delighted. As he hobbled away as quickly as he could, he recalled the words of his minister: – what has happened is only for your good! There is nothing but Grace of God behind this accident! He realised the wisdom behind his wellwisher’s words and rushed to the well to tell him.  He found the man sitting comfortably in the dry well singing away. The king threw in some dry vines twisted together to form a rope and pull out his minister. Then he told him of what happened to him and how he was set free. He apologised to the minister and asked forgiveness for thinking of him as a fool and also for throwing him into the well. The minister said: There is nothing to forgive for. What has happened is only for my good! There is nothing but Grace of God behind this happening too.

The king was curious at the man’s statement. He asked him: How is it a blessing for you to be thought of as fool and be thrown into a well? The minister replied: O noble Sire, if you had not thought so, you would have taken me with you and I would have been sacrificed as you are were not fit for it!

Let us remember that all that happens is only for our good and let us deepen our faith and surrender to God. Regular practice of SitaRam Mantra and meditation and following of the Guru’s teachings will helps us walk life with the faith that all that happens to us is only for good!
