Peace is essential in life. We cannot live without peace. Peace brings joy and contentment to life. Peace makes life worth living. We get peace for a short period of time by fulfillment of desires. Desires cannot be fulfilled at all times. Fulfillment of a single desire brings in more and more desires. Life is an eternal cycle of desires and working in order to fulfill them. So is peace really possible in life?
Peace comes to us through Grace of God and Guru. To get this grace we must do our spiritual practices of japa, dhyan and smaran ( remembrance ) God and Guru at all times. The remembrance of God and His Holy Name brings a divine vibration within us which fills us with peace and joy. Is it possible to remember God at all times in the modern world with such hectic schedules and lifestyles?
Our lifestyle today is crammed with activities which could fill more than twenty four hours. We spend a lot of time in travelling, working, studying, on net and on our favourite hobbies. It is very difficult to make time for remembering God and His Holy name. We feel that it is not just possible to sit for some time in japa or meditation or even recall God during the mad rush of our daily lives.
The activities of our entire day give us stress and dissatisfaction and there is no internal peace. Let us understand this truth and prioritize our time and schedules. We must make time in morning to sit for mantra japa and meditation. This will stabilize us and fill us with peace and purpose and we will able to do doing our work in a focussed manner. At night before sleeping, we should spend a short time doing the mantra japa. This will calm and soothe us and leave us relaxed for a good night’s sleep. We will then wake up refreshed and renewed.
During the day – in order to remember the name of God – we should multi task. We are all excellent at multitasking. For example, we drive our car, watch out for crazy drivers, traffic lights, policemen, speak on the cell phone, listen to music, make plans for breakfast, write a memo in the head and still be focussed enough to follow the rules of the traffic, drive safely and avoid accidents. In same way, whatever routines we are involved in, let us train ourselves to remember God at all times. During all of the day’s work and activities, let us recall the name of God in back of our head, or offer short murmur of thankfulness or a prayer. In this way we develop the habit of remembering God - smaran - at all times. This will not distract us from our work and we can perform efficiently. Having the holy vibration present in us at all times helps us to overcome stress, face deadlines and work in a more controlled, focussed and improved manner.
May you all remember the SitaRam Mantra at all times of day and night and live in peace.
