Satsang with the Guru

We always yearn for the darshan and satsang with the Guru. There is a deep satisfaction and peace when we sit near the Guru and absorb his teachings and his presence. The talks given by the Guru are always to the point and the simple explanations wash away years of confusion and misdirection. The way ahead in life seems clearer and simple to the disciple and he returns back home with renewed determination and zest to continue with his practices and face daily life with right action, balance and wisdom. It is true that the initial instructions and teachings are transmitted verbally by the Guru as the disciple does not have the capacity to understand any other form of teaching. But as the disciple starts his regular practices of japa and dhyana with the dos and don’ts of right conduct, he gains knowledge, experience and wisdom.  His mind becomes calmer. He knows he is on the right track.

Great power, peace and knowledge emanates from the Guru. When we sit in his presence we can feel this spiritual force and its tremendous strength.  As we sit in the presence of the Guru, a million questions, doubts and darkness rise in our mind. The silent emanation of power and peace from the Guru calms the mind down and  he teaches us by example of the power of sadhana and tapas.  The Guru has attained this state of perfection by his tapas and sitting at the feet of his Guru. So he teaches us to do the same. We experience a state of peace and wellbeing effortlessly.  New insights and revelations come to those who have prepared themselves by sadhana. Habits of many lifetimes – karma- is wiped out by a single session of sitting near the Guru in love and surrender.  When the eyes of the Guru meet the disciple, the power which emanates from the Guru’s eyes is the highest blessings and benediction which can be bestowed on the disciple.  There is an immediate transformation in the karma and life of the disciple which reflects in the quality of his sadhana and understanding of life.

Anyone who thinks of the Guru with love and reverence and focuses on his form or Self or any other form of Divinity can easily receive the power of the Guru. The flow of power is immediate and distance or time makes no difference to the flow or the efficiency. Even while sitting far away geographically from the Guru, we can still have satsang with the Guru by sitting in stillness and focussing on him.  We receive the contact and grace to the levels our systems are prepared by bhakti and regular sadhana.  Sincere and experienced disciples have experienced their Self during such satsang from distances. Spiritual upliftment is possible only by the grace of a Guru. The Guru is a sculptor who chips away all the unwanted qualities from the disciple and prepares him to be worthy of God. The disciple then is in a position to offer himself in entirety to Divinity.

Divinity bestows grace when the devotee has worked for it. We see the examples of many demons who have done great tapas and received powerful boons from God. These benefits are generally on the materialistic and mundane level. The Guru blesses the disciple out of his great compassion and love to reduce the suffering of the disciple. The Guru does not see the worthiness or unworthiness of the disciple. At time grace simply flows from the Guru. When Guru blesses a disciple, Divinity has to reinforce and give the blessings in full irrespective of the karmic worthiness or otherwise of the disciple.  The depths of the compassion of the Guru cannot be measured. When we have a SadGuru in our life, let us be regular in our sadhana or practices and make ourselves worthy of his grace. Physical distances do not matter. We can overcome them with mental love and focus on the Guru and always be in satsang with the Guru and receive immense blessings at all times.
